The Winnipeg Puppet Collective wants puppeteers of all skill levels to show short-form works at the next puppet slam, September 30, 2017.
The Winnipeg Puppet Slam hosts annual events that showcase new short adult works of puppetry by local and international artists, expose this under-appreciated art form to new audiences and help create a sense of community among puppet artists.  Started in 2010 following the Plastic Paper animation festival, when visiting puppeteer Heather Henson of Ibex Puppetry hosted a premiere of new puppet-based work, and introduced a group of local performers to each other and suggested they have their own puppet slam.
The Winnipeg Puppet slam is the WPC's main event where puppeteers of all kinds show short form pieces among their peers, in a similar style to a poetry slam, but uncompetitive and unjuried.  It's an opportunity for all skill or performance levels to put on a show among a supportive group of people.
Previous performers include Marsian, Adhere & Deny, The Watch & Spectacle Puppet Company, The Secondhandpants, 6, The Wishweweres, X, Emily Baxter, Signifipedia Puppets, Jazz On A String, Prominent Chin, and Heather Henson.
The next puppet slam is just two months, away on September 30, 2017!  Just enough time to get something great done, but not enough time to obsess about it!
Deadline for submission is August 1st, 2017.
